Reflecting the spirit of compassion, generosity and communal harmony associated with the Poson Poya season, the staff of the University of Kelaniya Library organised a Dansala on 30 June 2026, extending hospitality and goodwill to the university community and the public.
The Dansala, held in the area in front of the University Library, was organised, funded and conducted by the library staff. The initiative demonstrated their collective commitment to promoting the values of generosity, community service and social responsibility while strengthening the bonds of fellowship within the university community.
As part of the event, freshly prepared ginger tea and hot fish buns were served to students, academic and administrative staff, visitors and members of the public. The generous participation of the library staff ensured the event ran smoothly and created a welcoming, hospitable environment for everyone who visited the Dansala.
The initiative also provided an opportunity for the Library staff to come together beyond their regular professional responsibilities and contribute collectively to a meaningful community activity. From the initial preparations through to the conclusion of the event, the cooperation, dedication and camaraderie demonstrated by the staff reflected the strong sense of unity and shared responsibility within the University of Kelaniya Library.
The Poson Dansala was more than an act of providing refreshments; it was an expression of the enduring Sri Lankan tradition of dāna and a reflection of the values of compassion, selflessness and service to others. It also reaffirmed the broader role of the library as an integral part of the university community, extending beyond its traditional responsibilities in supporting teaching, learning and research.
The successful conclusion of the Dansala marked another meaningful occasion in which the staff of the University of Kelaniya Library demonstrated their commitment to community engagement, collective responsibility and the spirit of giving.
